Depression

When life’s circumstances bring sadness, and that sadness turns to despair, depression can take hold. Depression often results in emotional numbness, loss of motivation, and difficulty finding joy in life the way you once did. Recovering and healing from depression involves a process of honoring the pain and the underlying causes, processing and seeking healing for unaddressed wounds, and rising to the challenge of beginning to make choices that bring you towards life even when your depression is driving you toward isolation, withdrawal, and inaction. Battling depression is like battling darkness, it’s often like fighting an enemy you can’t see. Sometimes the darkness feels more intense than others. Suicidal thoughts and self-harm are common struggles for some who deal with depression. These issues are common for us to process and work through together, however it is important to understand the scope and limits of outpatient mental health counseling and when it’s time to seek additional help. During our work if you or I assess that your safety is an imminent risk, I will make a recommendation to a higher level of care in our community to assist with stabilization.
